First Bath

What an exciting week. Eli took his first bath and loved it. You can tell by his big post-bath smile! I can already see him doing the patented Chinese breast-stroke (head out of water).

Eli's First Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all! This year was an especially wonderful Christmas for us. Not only did we rejoice in the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, but we also got to enjoy the most amazing gift we could ever imagine - Elijah. Jonah and Min hosted a scrumptious feast, and Eli couldn't be happier. He drank mother's sweet milk and got passed from one human cradle to the next. He also got to meet Aunt Amy and Uncle Ben.

Hellos and goodbyes...

Still in his 2nd week of life and Eli's starting to get some personality. He's also starting to put on some chub at almost 11 pounds already (gonna have to hit the weights soon). This week was both exciting and sad for Easy E. He met his Great Grandma (Jeremiah's puo puo) and also went for his first walk with Mom. On the downside, Eli had to say goodbye to his grandparents who had to return to their home in Taiwan. We know that Eli will miss them as much they will miss him.

Settling in at the Cocoon

Let me just relax here. Must eat ... but can't stay awake... zzz. Gotta stretch out. My grandma indirectly feeds me tasty food. My very young looking grandpa.. My sweet smelling Auntie Min. Uncle Jonah has a strange way of holding me.

Elijah has arrived!

After an intense labor, Christine finally gave birth to our son at 1:08 am December 2, 2004 at El Camino Hospital. Contrary to our Dr's guestimate, he weighed 9 pounds 1 ounce and was 21 inches long. (No wonder Christine had such a hard time getting him out!) His name is Elijah Taison Chan. We chose Elijah because he is one of our favorite Old Testament prophets who lived a life of unwavering faith and courage. The Hebrew meaning for Elijah is appropriately "Jehovah is God". Taison was chosen in honor of Christine's late and always beloved grandfather Liu Tai San. Elijah's Chinese name is shown in a picture below (pingyin is "Chen Chang Ming") and was chosen by his grandparents (on Jeremiah's side). "Chang" is his pre-determined second character from the Chan family poem (the double sun character represents growing) and "Ming" is the third character from Christine's father's name which means "to be engraved on one's mind" and also represents a "profound appreciation". On that note, we want to thank the Lord for his goodness and all of you, our family and friends, for your love, support and prayer throughout Christine's pregnancy all the way up to Eli's birth.
